Doctor as Teacher + Mentorship

Docere is latin for Doctor as Teacher and is one of the 6 tenets of Naturopathic care. It’s also the foundation for dr. kacy’s practice.

This tenet emphasizes the belief that when people understand their health, they are empowered to choose wellness. It also emphasizes the importance of creating a healthy doctor-patient relationship. -Dr. Kim Tippens, ND, LAc

It is in this understanding of docere where the essence of healing lies. dr. kacy and Quercus Natural Health are committed to providing tangible tools that bring your healing and wellness into your hands. We know that we must do the deep healing work from within and we are honored to support you to cultivate the tools that help you find your own unique medicine.

Through this work, you will better understand your own body, seasonality, signs of imbalances and will know how to nurture and tend to those imbalances. You will be able to shift course and heal much of what ails you without direct care.

dr. kacy is also committed to practicing this work within and healing alongside you. This work strives to provide compassionate and empowering healthcare to optimize function and prevent dis-ease.

Mentorship

In the spirit of docere with a passion to support new practioners in our unique fields of practice dr. kacy has begun a mentorship program.

Please welcome Dr. Hayley Jensen and Dr. Claire Erhart into the fold as we all practice docere. Here you will find their bios and links to each of their websites, where you can learn more about these two remarkable healers.

Dr. Claire Erhart grew up in rural Connecticut, where she learned to love living barefoot in the woods. Her strong connection to the natural world followed her into her college years, where she studied natural resources and anthropology at the University of Vermont. Along with a strong drive to help people, this influenced her decision to move to Portland, Oregon to attend the National University of Natural Medicine. She graduated from the ND and MSOM programs in June of 2021.

She likes to spend most of her free time outdoors either backpacking, running, or hiking. She also enjoys skateboarding and playing the ukulele. She believes that practicing activities we enjoy can be deeply therapeutic for the soul, and that time outside is the best medicine.

Dr. Claire is happy to provide adjunctive care to all different types of people. Inspired by medicine through her own healing journey, she believes that true health includes physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects. She strongly resonates with the concept of, “doctor as teacher,” and aims to help you help yourself along your healing journey. She will work with you over time to help identify the root cause of your health issues, and utilize a variety of methods to improve health. A session with Dr. Claire will include modalities such as acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, and craniosacral massage therapy. Your first session together will include an hour of thorough intake and introduction, followed by 30 minutes of treatment.

Dr. Hayley is continuing their clinical training in mentorship with Dr. Kacy Borba Spann, of Quercus Natural Health, at Pohala Clinic and Portland Family Health Healing Collective.
